(1) During the show, you mentioned to watch out for brief descriptions, no details, just send your resume. Why do they allow these people to advertise with no details or very little description? Don’t you have to have a legitimate job to advertise on a job board?
Each job should be screened. Large job boards like the Big three have millions on their site and sometimes it will slip by the recruiter or whoever is doing the screening by computer and it just gets posted. With smaller or niche job boards you can have them hand screened before the jobs get posted.
(2) What do you mean when you say “not all job boards are a like and they don’t have the same standards?
There are 30 - 40,000 job boards out there. Some are strict and have high standards and others are more flexible and not as serious. The best advice is to look for the ones that belong to the IAES. You will find the logo on their site. If you are looking at a job board and you’re not sure, go the International Association of Employment Web Sites and see if they are a member. Also make sure you have read the privacy policy and the user terms and agreements.
(3) I have a professionally written resume that highlights my credentials. When I try to post my resume, my resume can only be posted one way. For example, on Monster you can’t post a functional resume. How can I make my resume stand out in this competitive job market?
Each board has its own standards and requirements. The recruiters and employers no what they are so they know how to look for the information they need. Make sure you hire someone who is a professional resume writer and knows what the key words are. You can find a certified resume writer through the association (CRW).
